New York City turns into a movie lover’s paradise each fall, and the New York Film Festival is a big reason why. The 64th annual festival takes place from September 25th through October 12th. Expect major premieres, star-studded galas, restored classics, and plenty of films you won’t find anywhere else.

What’s on the Big Screen

Here’s a look at some of the highlights on this year’s festival calendar.

  • Opening night: James Gray’s Paper Tiger stars Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson. Then, on September 26th, Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus Zero gets its world premiere.
  • More to see: Pedro Pascal stars in Behemoth!, while the lineup also includes Chris Rock’s Misty Green, Tom McCarthy’s A Statement, and Andrew Haigh’s A Long Winter. The Currents program brings experimental films and shorts, while Revivals returns restored classics such as The Devils and Gone to Earth.
  • Plan your visit: Most screenings happen around Lincoln Center, plus festival events at BAM and the Museum of the Moving Image. Single tickets go on sale September 15th at 12:00 PM, and prices start at $22 for Currents, Revivals, and Talks.

If you’re ready to trade the usual Friday night movie for something a little more unexpected, NYFF64 has plenty to choose from.
