DanceAfrica returns to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for its 49th year. This NYC event features a multi-day run that brings together performance and festival happenings in one place. This year’s focus is on Uganda, with a lineup that spotlights both the stage production and the anticipated weekend events.

DanceAfrica Performances at BAM

The DanceAfrica 2026 program is centered around Uganda’s cultural traditions. The lineup includes performances by the Ndere Troupe, Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater, the DanceAfrica Spirit Walkers, and The Billie’s Youth Arts Academy Dance Ensemble.

  • Dates: May 22nd to 25th, 2026. Times vary.
  • Venue: The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House (Peter Jay Sharp Building)
  • Tickets: Starting at $20

The festival continues beyond the stage with an outdoor bazaar featuring food, fashion, and crafts. Workshops, classes, film screenings, and late-night events also take place throughout the weekend.

This is an insightful cultural program with multiple ways to participate. It’s a way to stretch your understanding of the traditions and influences behind the performances. Check out DanceAfrica this May!
