Japan Fes has become one of those events that keep popping up all over the city once spring hits. One weekend it takes over the East Village. The next, it’s packed into Chelsea, Astoria, or Times Square, with long food lines, folding tables, and crowds walking block to block carrying trays of the most delicious Japanese street food.
Japan Fes Returns Across NYC in 2026
The festival celebrates its 10th year in 2026 and continues to make its way through neighborhoods across New York from March into December.
- East Village, Chelsea, Astoria, Times Square, and the Upper West Side all return to the schedule.
- Brooklyn joins the lineup in June, and New Rochelle hosts several dates outside the city.
- Vendors serve everything from takoyaki and yakisoba to ramen, karaage, yakitori, onigiri, and matcha desserts.
- Some of the festival’s best-known vendors have built serious followings around dishes like Osaka-style takoyaki and street-style yakitori.
Part of the appeal is how casual the whole thing feels once you get there. People stop by for one snack and end up circling back for dessert or another round of food. We always recommend that you pace yourself. Music keeps the energy up, vendors call people over from behind the grills, and entire afternoons disappear faster than expected.
Over the last decade, Japan Fes has grown from a local food event into a familiar part of warm-weather weekends around NYC. Coming soon, to YOUR neighborhood!
