Despite its name, Harlem Week lasts much longer than seven days. And 2026 is a major milestone for this event. Harlem Week celebrates its 50th anniversary from August 1st through August 16th with live entertainment, neighborhood traditions, local businesses, food, fashion, family activities, and community events that celebrate the many sides of Harlem.
Whether it’s your first visit or part of your summer routine, Harlem Week offers plenty of reasons to spend time in one of New York City’s most influential neighborhoods.
What Is Harlem Week?
Harlem Week began more than 50 years ago as a one-day celebration. Fifty years later, it fills more than two weeks each August with events that welcome residents and visitors from across NYC and beyond.
The 2026 theme, Honoring Our Legacy, recognizes the leaders, artists, and community members who helped shape Harlem Week over the past five decades while looking ahead to the future.
What Can You Experience During Harlem Week?
The full 2026 calendar is still on the way, but several signature events have already been announced.
The Headline Events
Grant’s Tomb hosts one of Harlem Week’s biggest celebrations with a full day of live music, culture, and community. Harlem Day brings thousands of New Yorkers and visitors to the heart of Harlem for performances, local vendors, neighborhood organizations, and food.
Arts, Culture, and Conversation
Fashion & Cultural explores Harlem’s influence on style through runway presentations and exhibitions. Harlem on My Mind brings together leaders from business, government, and the arts for conversations about Harlem today and the ideas that shape its future.
Food and Family
HW Eats shines a light on Harlem’s restaurants and the neighborhood’s food culture. Youth & Family events introduce younger generations to the arts, music, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement through activities designed for all ages.
Harlem Week Showcases the Neighborhood
Harlem Week is a celebration that shines a light on the people and places that make up the neighborhood. Restaurants welcome new visitors. Local businesses connect with customers. Artists share their work. Community organizations introduce programs and resources to families throughout the event.
That mix gives visitors a chance to experience Harlem from several perspectives instead of through a single event or performance.
What Should You Know Before You Go?
Harlem Week takes place August 1st through August 16th, 2026.
The full event calendar has not been released yet, so it’s worth checking back as the celebration gets closer for performance schedules, event locations, and additional program details.
Many Harlem Week events are free, which makes it easy to spend a few hours or an entire day exploring everything the neighborhood has to offer.
If Harlem Week has never made your summer calendar, 2026 offers the perfect opportunity to change that.
