Tiny trains, famous New York landmarks, and buildings made from pinecones. The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden is back from November 14th through January 10th, and this year’s lineup includes nearly 200 miniature replicas. Inside the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, model trains travel past familiar city sights, all crafted from natural materials like palm fronds, pinecones, and cinnamon sticks. It’s a little bit nostalgic, a little bit magical, and a very good excuse to make a holiday outing of it.

New York, Only Much Smaller

The Holiday Train Show has been a New York winter tradition for more than 30 years, and there are always details being added year after year. This season’s new addition is a botanical replica of One Vanderbilt, the Midtown skyscraper known for its striking shape and the SUMMIT observation experience. Outside the Conservatory, the fun continues with a glowing mountain landscape and even more miniature trains to spot.

If you’d prefer a quieter experience, NYBG has scheduled sensory friendly viewing mornings for November 21st and January 9th, from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. The Conservatory will be free of videos and music during those hours, though the trains and waterfalls will still be running. Tickets also include access to the outdoor gardens and collections.

The Holiday Train Show opens to the public on November 14th, with a members-only preview on November 13th. Whether you go for the trains, the tiny landmarks, or the sheer ingenuity of turning pinecones into New York City, this is a holiday tradition you won’t want to miss.
