Every summer, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts changes pace a little once Summer for the City gets underway. The campus is buzzing. Music can be heard across the plaza. People stop on the steps outside between performances and screenings. It’s a celebration of art in a city that knows how to do both things well.
Catch All the Action at Summer for the City
Summer for the City is from June 10th to August 8th, 2026, at Lincoln Center. Most events are free, and others use a choose-what-you-pay system. Concerts, dance performances, film screenings, poetry events, and public art take over both the indoor theaters and outdoor spaces across the campus.
A large outdoor dance floor is in the center of the plaza throughout the season. On certain nights, live DJs and dance parties pull crowds outside well past sunset. Some evenings are quieter with film screenings or live performances.
The schedule is diverse and changes constantly throughout the summer. You’ll hear jazz or global music one night, and the next will center around dance, spoken word, or film.
Summer for the City has become part of summer in Manhattan. People stop by after work, stay for a performance, and end up spending the rest of the night around the plaza.
