Top of the Rock gives you a front-row seat to one of New York City’s best evening views. The observation deck at Rockefeller Center is open until midnight, which means you can catch the city in that stretch between daylight and darkness when Central Park is still visible and the lights across Midtown begin to take over.
Skyline Views Until Midnight
Top of the Rock occupies the 67th, 69th, and 70th floors of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The upper two levels are completely open-air. You’re above the city with clear views of Central Park, the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. We know the word “breathtaking” can be overused, but this view really is.
Summer evenings bring a little more to the experience. The After Dark series adds live DJs, late-night food and drinks, and extra time above the city. Visitors can also step onto Skylift, a revolving glass platform that rises 900 feet above street level and brings another layer to the view.
The Weather Room itself is worth a stop. The indoor cafe and bar is located on the 67th floor and gives visitors a place to take a break without giving up the skyline. For anyone looking for a little more adventure, The Beam recreates the famous 1932 construction photo high above Rockefeller Center. It’s a photo op that’s worth all the scaries.
There are plenty of ways to spend a summer evening in Manhattan. Watching the city shift from day to night from the top of Rockefeller Center is one that never gets old.
