The Tribeca Festival comes back to New York City this June 3rd through June 14th. There will be screenings, premieres, and live events scheduled across Lower Manhattan and other parts of the city.

It’s been around since 2002. At this point, it’s an anticipated part of early summer in New York. People know it, plan around it, or stumble into it while something else is already going on downtown.

The History of the Tribeca Festival

The festival started after September 11th, 2001, during a time when Lower Manhattan needed people back in the area. It was a delicate time in the city. Actor Robert De Niro, along with Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, put it together as a way to bring activity and people back together through film and public events.

The first year got attention quickly. Films came in from all over, and the audience followed. Over time, the festival expanded, but the connection to independent film never disappeared.

What to Expect at the 2026 Festival

Film is what brings people into The Tribeca Film Festival. But, the schedule includes premieres, documentaries, international titles, and independent projects. Screenings vary in size and demand.

After certain screenings, the people behind the film come out for a conversation. Those can be short or run longer than expected, depending on how it goes.

Television premieres are part of the lineup as well. You sit through the first episode in a theater, then hear directly from the people who worked on it.

There are also talks and panels. These stay focused on specific projects or the process behind them. No broad topics, just what’s in front of them at the moment.

Some years include installations or interactive work. That part changes depending on the program.

Where and When the Festival Takes Place

Tribeca is the hub. However, screenings do take place in different theaters across the city.

The festival runs June 3rd through June 14th, 2026.

Tickets are sold per event. Passes are also available if you want more flexibility. Premieres go first. Other screenings stay open longer.

The Tribeca Festival returns to New York City for twelve days in June. It stays tied to film, even as the schedule continues to expand.
