6 Event Metrics Professionals Should Be Measuring

Some New York events you curate are easily determined as “successful” just by gauging how much fun the attendees had or positive client sentiments. But you can’t rely on opinions to define success in events. Instead, make sure you’re collecting and reviewing the following key metrics after each event. These details will immediately help you spot areas of improvement and specific event successes you can use to fine-tune your next event.

1. Tickets Sold or Corporate Event Registration Data

One of the first event metrics you can collect is ticket sales. And if your event didn’t sell tickets to gain entry, you can instead review event registration data and attendance rates. Compare these attendee counts with event attendance goals and/or invites sent.

2. Post-Event Surveys and Net Promoter Scores

Scrutinize the responses and results of any post-event surveys you initiated and compile your Net Promoter Scores. These NPS metrics will help you determine a score to measure “event promoters,” “neutral event attendees,” and “event detractors.” Any score above zero is good. But aiming for above 50 is considered excellent.

3. Sponsorship ROI

Review the data relating to your event sponsors. In securing your sponsors, you likely offered ROI and brand impression benefits. After your event is over, go back to those ROI metrics and see how well you delivered on what you promised to those sponsors. You’ll want to present these results to your sponsors, as well.

4. Social Media Engagement

How well did your event marketing perform? Check the data available on social media regarding the pre-event, event, and post-event engagements. Learn more about how many liked, posted, and talked about your event. But also be keen to identify tickets sold or click-through data related to your social media. These data points will help you determine what you did well and what areas need improvement relating to social event promotion.

5. Event App Analytics

If your New York event was managed and promoted using an event app, spend some quality time with those app-specific metrics. See how many app users you managed to attract, along with which features were used most. This data will help you improve your event app design and promotion efforts for other future events.

6. Revenue Generated

Another piece of data you need to know and analyze involves your event’s revenue. You’ll want to tally the dollars collected and compare it with event goals. Did you meet a fundraising goal? Were you able to maintain your own profit margins? These details will help you get accurate visibility into your event’s earnings.
